MODDERSHALL OAKS Country Spa Retreat

Although I adore our “family time” it is important to take time out and spend some “husband and wife” time too, which for us is not a very frequent experience so a real treat! This blog post was written during our recent visit to Moddershall Oaks Country Spa Retreat, near Stone in Staffordshire.

As I write this I am sitting outside in a dressing gown, basking in the sunshine whilst drinking a cup of coffee (it’s a little early for Prosecco!) next to an outdoor heated vitality spa pool after having had a wonderful Indian Head Massage…relaxation doesn’t get much better than this! I feel like I could be abroad but no, I’m in the heart of the Staffordshire countryside at the beautiful Moddershall Oaks Country Spa Retreat.

Moddershall Oaks occasionally release some flippin’ good voucher deals and this year I managed to get an overnight spa break for 2, for the bargain price of £169 (including a night in one of their 5* boutique suites, breakfast, and full use of the indoor and outdoor spa facilities) and a 2 for 1 Elemis Couture Touch voucher (usually £75 each) which involves an Elemis hands on facial and a deep tissue or hot stones massage which lasts for a luxurious 55 minutes.

We arrived at 3pm yesterday, were given a lovely welcome drink (Bellini…yum!) and shown to our room. Out masssges/facials were booked for 6pm so we changed into our swimwear and went straight to the outdoor spa area. This is truly beautiful and, in my opinion, what sets Moddershall Oaks apart from other spas I’ve been to. Decking, under a wooden canopy with outdoor sofas and sunbeds, surrounds a large (25sqm) heated vitality spa pool. A roaring fire keeps you warm on cooler days and the views of rolling green fields are magnificent. Food and drink are brought to you by the ever-attentive staff and there is also a Kelo sauna with views over the gorgeous countryside. I have enjoyed this outdoor courtyard in full sunshine and also in rain and, as Moddershall Oaks posted on their Instagram account recently, it can even be enjoyed when it’s snowing too. Absolute bliss and a definite “happy place!”

At 6pm we went for our Elemis Couture Touch treatments treatment and all I can say is, “WOW!” My therapist, Lorna, was AMAZING!!!! I have had a mini facial and shoulder massage from her in the past, when I visited the spa for my mum’s birthday and had said to Mr J that I hoped I would have her again, so I was really pleased when she called my name! This time I opted for the deep tissue massage before my facial and it was absolutely fabulous!! Thank you Lorna!!

After our treatments were finished, feeling truly relaxed, we went to our room (or should I say, 5* suite!) to relax for a bit before getting ready for dinner in the luxury award-winning restaurant. Each room has its own decking area with beautiful views (see photos below) and the ten rooms all have access to a outdoor hot-tub which is exclusively for overnight guests. One thing I would say is that they should possibly invest in one more hot-tub for this area as every time we’ve stayed you never want to interrupt other couples’ private moments in the hot-tub so a lot of curtain twitching goes on at the 10 windows, waiting for the hot-tub to be free before you can rush out and jump in before anyone else does!!

Moddershall Oaks describes its fine-dining restaurant as “second-to-none” and I would wholeheartedly agree! It is one of the best restaurants we have ever eaten at! The food and drink is totally delicious, the service is great and the ambience is lovely. They catered for my gluten-free diet due to coeliac disease with understanding and I didn’t feel restricted by the menu. It is very easy to see why they are award winning! Fabulous!!

After a wonderful night’s sleep (and a lie-in!!!!) we will now spend the whole day chilling out and waited on by the fabulous staff. We may go and relax in the beautiful lounge area or perhaps have a dip in the indoor pool, hydrotherapy pool, steam room, experience shower or reflexology footbaths. We could also have a wander around the 72 acres of woodland, play tennis or hire some bicycles but that all sounds far too energetic!!!

Yet again, this has been an AMAZING trip to the FABULOUS Moddershall Oaks! I’d better start saving my pocket money so that we can return again in the not so distant future!!!

Have you ever been to Moddershall Oaks? If so, what did you think?
