Homemade Playdough

Last Sunday was Little Miss’s Flamingos and Unicorns party so we spent the Saturday making huge batches of pink playdough for a Playdough Flamingo Activity!

How cute is this flamingo we made! We named him Freddie!

There are various playdough recipes online but in my opinion nothing beats my Mum’s recipe from the book she used to teach me to read over 30 years ago.img_6039-1The recipe is so simple and works really well!

    • Ingredients: 1 tablespoon cooking oil, 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup salt, 1 cup water, 2 teaspoons cream of tartar, few drops of food colouring.
    • Mix all of the above to a smooth paste. Cook slowly in a pan for a few minutes (Tip: I keep stirring whilst doing this. Also, make sure you don’t overcook.) Cool and then play!!
  • Store wrapped tightly in cling film in the fridge.img_5806

It’s so easy and Little Miss loved helping me with the measuring and mixing – although we did do it outside as I’m coeliac and didn’t want flour all over the kitchen!!

Also…it smells divine!!

I’d love to know if you’ve tried out my recipe! Please let me know by commenting below! You can also have a go at making your own Freddie! All you need is some feathers, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, black card and of course, pink homemade playdough! Enjoy!
